G8 UNIVERSITY SUMMIT 2009

The G8 University Summit (17-19 May 2009) has been held in Torino, in the year of the Italian Presidency of the G8 Heads of State, promoted by CRUI (Conference of Italian Universities Rectors), Politecnico di Torino and the Italian Commission for UNESCO. The meeting involved all the Universities in the G8 countries, the Outreach 5 (Brazil, China, India, and South Africa), the MEM group (South Corea, Australia, Indonesia), some Mediterranean countries, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa to talk about Sustainability.

ITU: A Historic University Making History in Education and Innovation

The dynamic administration of the Istanbul Technical University (ITU) led by Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammed Sahin since August 2008, has placed sustainability in the core of its values. The four major cornerstones of his vision include: entrepreneurship, quality in education, research and most importantly innovation. In order to make these cornerstones solid and sustainable, major projects have been planned and implemented in rapid time.

H2Roma Project

H2Roma is a communication event on sustainability of energy, mobility and cars promoted by CIRPS - Interuniversity Research Centre for Sustainable Development - Sapienza University of Rome, CNR - National Research Council - Energy and Transportation Department, ENEA – Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development. The scientific coordination is assigned to Prof. Orecchini and his research section SEM – Energy and Mobility Systems of CIRPS.

The Innovation Panel is a web based market research tool that is developed by KTH Innovation which allows researchers and students with promising product or business ideas to get early and crucial feedback from potential clients, users and other stake holders. The Innovation Panel plays an important part in indicating how the ideas should be developed, which applications have the most potential and, in some cases, if it is even worth pursuing the idea.

Sapienza Fashion - ModaSapienza

Real training and virtual backup: this is the project Sapienza Fashion – ModaSapienza, based on a series of seminars held by top managers, analysts and entrepreneurs who best represent the Italian and international fashion system. We produced the website www.seminarimodasapienza.it with its corresponding Facebook page (modasapienza) and twitter account (#modasapienza). The website was launched in January 2012 following a warm-up period in December 2011.

Scientific Output Portal (PPC) is a software developed by SIGMA Gestión universitaria AIE (SIGMAAIE) (1) in collaboration with University Pompeu Fabra (UPF) , to show on an easy and intuitive way, all the scientific output of an institution, grouped by researcher, department, research center and/or research figure (research groups, units,…), accessible from the UPF institutional web site and with free access to the scientific community and society.

University of Nottingham: The Periodic Table of Videos and Sixty Symbols

The Periodic Table of Videos (PTOV) and Sixty Symbols (SS) are a collaborative effort between video journalist Brady Haran and the School of Chemistry and School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham. Our two collections of several hundred short videos on scientific topics are hosted on YouTube and are available through our dedicated websites. The two channels have gained an enthusiastic global audience with over 29 million total video views. Though the initial goals of the projects were to produce one video for each element in the Periodic Table (PTOV) and 60 videos about the symbols used in physics and astronomy (SS), both projects have instead responded to a tide of viewer enthusiasm to evolve into ongoing projects far beyond their original scope.

Catalysts for Methane Conversion

Clarity of purpose

Catalysis is a cross-discipline involving chemistry, physics, biology, and engineers.
The objective of the project is to bring catalysis to broader audience. This is done using as an example the conversion of methane. The complexity of the research on catalysts for methane conversion is shown by a movie using simple words and pictures.
